I was on Facebook the other day, scrolling through, when I saw an old TV ad for Hot Grill in Clifton. It was an ad in 1998, but it looked like an ad from 1970. Technology really does move too fast.
Anyway. While looking through the comments, I saw some people saying Hot Grill was 10 times better than Rutts Hut (also in Clifton).
So me and my Dad took a stroll to Brix City Brewery to try to pick up a couple 4 packs (Brix City is my favorite) and I mentioned to him that Hot Grill was supposedly better than Rutts Hut in the eyes of some people and that we had to stop and try it. So, that’s what we did.
Here’s my takeaway from trying it out.
Is Hot Grill Better Than Rutts Hut?
I got one cheese dog and one plain. I have to say, although the dogs were good, in my honest opinion, they weren’t better than Rutt’s Hut. Food is subjective, so you may think otherwise, but here’s my reasoning. Rutt’s Hut dogs have a crunchiness to them that is unmatched, thanks to their unique deep-frying technique that gives the casing a perfect snap with every bite.
On top of that, I love the cheese that Rutts Hut puts on their dogs as well in comparison to Hot Grill.
I will say that if I’m in the area, I would definitely stop by again. However, if I had to choose between the two I would say Rutts Hut takes the edge.
Here are the onion rings I got with the hot dogs that we’re really good.
As for my dad, he agreed with me that Rutt’s was a bit better. He pointed out that there’s something about the tradition and consistency of Rutt’s Hut that makes their hot dogs stand out.
My Hot Grill Rating: 6.5/10
